O ABCD (ARQUIVOS BRASILEIROS de CIRURGIA DIGESTIVA) \u00e9 um peri\u00f3dico trimestral com volume \u00fanico anual e \u00f3rg\u00e3o oficial do Col\u00e9gio Brasileiro de Cirurgia Digestiva (CBCD), e tem como miss\u00e3o publicar artigos sobre estudos cl\u00ednicos e experimentais que contribuir para o desenvolvimento da pesquisa, do ensino e da assist\u00eancia na gastroenterologia cir\u00fargica e cl\u00ednica e outras \u00e1reas afins. DEAR AUTHORS<\/strong>: Thank you for your interest in submitting your manuscript for evaluation and publication in ABCD \u2013 Arquivos Brasileiros de Cirurgia Digestiva.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Journal is indexed in SciELO, PubMed and PubMed Central, Scopus, Web of Science, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journal), LILACS and Google Scholar and receives many scientific papers for publication.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We suggest that you carefully read all the details included in these INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS<\/strong>, to prepare your scientific work and submit it to ABCD.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Scope and policy<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

ABCD is a quarterly journal with a single annual volume, official organ of the Brazilian College of Digestive Surgery (CBCD), and its mission is to publish articles on clinical and experimental studies that contribute to the development of research, teaching and assistance in surgical and clinical gastroenterology, and related areas.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Sections include: original articles, review articles, surgical technique articles, guidelines, consensuses or updates, editorials (by invitation) and letters to the editor. There may be other sections depending on the journal's interest or the need for dissemination.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Works submitted for publication must be unpublished and exclusively intended for ABCD. They must not have been previously published in a similar form and should not be under consideration for publication in another national or international journal.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Its content must include a scientific contribution to surgical and clinical gastroenterology, have scientific merit and highlight the national and international literature.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

All matters related to human research and animal research must have prior approval from the Research Ethics Committee (REC) of the institution where the work was carried out, or in another local or regional institution if there is no such committee where the study was conducted in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki, revised in 2013. Following current standards of good practice in human research, it is the full responsibility of the authors that patients enrolled in the study must have signed an informed consent form.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

ABCD supports the policies of the World Health Organization (WHO) and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) in registering clinical trials, recognizing the importance of these initiatives for the international registration and dissemination of clinical trial information for open access. Therefore, clinical trials will only be accepted for publication after they have received an identification number from one of the Clinical Trials Registers validated by the criteria established by WHO and ICMJE, whose addresses are available at the ICMJE website (www.icmje.org). The identification number must be registered at the end of the abstract.<\/p>\r\n\r\n

As of January 1, 2022, the Journal will publish works exclusively in English. Therefore, authors from abroad must submit the work in English. Brazilian authors may initially provide the work in Portuguese, and after reviewers' evaluation, adaptations and final acceptance for publication, they need to provide the translation and send the final work in English.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Editors, upon request of the authors, may arrange for the translation into English of the respective accepted works, with the costs of the translation being passed on to the authors. Editors will send all accepted papers for review in English, complying with academic, technical and medical language and terminology.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Articles must be typed in double space, using a 12-pt Arial font and numbering the pages consecutively starting with the title page. The maximum length of the text, excluding references and tables, is 5000 words for original and review articles and 800 for letters to the editor and editorials.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Journal does not accept case reports.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

All concepts and scientific assertions emanating from articles, or printed advertisements, are the sole responsibility of the authors or advertisers. To standardize the language of medical terms, authors should, S\u00e3o Paulo, Terminologia Anat\u00f4mica. Editora Manole, 1st Ed., 2001, for anatomical terms. ABCD is free to do so if the author(s) has not followed it.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Every article submitted for publication must be written concisely and entirely in the third person singular or plural, and it must consist of a pre\/post-textual and textual part.
The manuscript must be composed of:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

TITLE PAGE<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

  1. Title in Portuguese and English;<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  2. Full name(s) of author(s)<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  3. Identification of the place(s) where the work was carried out, making clear the institution(s) involved, city, state and country;<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  4. Name and email address of the responsible author and for correspondence with the Editors;<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
  5. ORCID number of all authors (https:\/\/orcid.org\/register).<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    ABSTRACT<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    It should be sent in Portuguese and English, consist of up to 300 words in a single paragraph, structured describing BACKGROUND, AIM, METHODS, RESULTS, CONCLUSION and HEADINGS (Key Words) An abstract is not needed for Letters to the Editor. It should not contain abbreviations, acronyms or references.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    HEADINGS<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Three to five keywords must be listed, which are contained in the Health Sciences Descriptors - DeCS (http:\/\/decs.bvs.br\/) or MESH (http:\/\/www.nlm.nih.gov\/mesh\/meshhome.html - (Attention: key words that do not appear in DeCS\/MESH must not be used).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    CENTRAL MESSAGE, PERSPECTIVES AND VISUAL ABSTRACT<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Due to the inclusion of social media in bibliometric evaluations (called altmetrics), as of 2020, ABCD, as well as the most important national and international medical journals, are adding small texts to their publications, called Central Message<\/strong> and Perspectives<\/strong>. In addition, a Visual Abstract<\/strong> or Highlights<\/strong> must be included, which will be disseminated through Twitter, Facebook and similar media. The words of these texts must be simple so that the medical and lay public can understand the advancement of science that the article proposes. The Central Message<\/strong> is not a brief summary of the results but a simple overview of them (maximum of 100 words).\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Perspectives<\/strong> is the message that should indicate the significance of the findings and how the authors anticipate that their results will help in clinical practice (maximum of 100 words).\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Visual Abstract<\/strong> or Highlights<\/strong> present a brief graphic summary of the article. They should indicate the topic being addressed and provide a summary of the results, most often using simple icons, figures and graphs. One to three columns can be used.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    The Abstract, Central Message, Perspectives and Visual Abstract are not necessary for Letters to the Editor and editorials.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    BODY OF THE TEXT<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Articles of study types listed at the Equator for Health Research Reporting website (https:\/\/www.equator-network.org) must be submitted with the corresponding checklist completed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Acronyms should only be used for repeated technical words. They must be included in parentheses the first time they appear and then only the acronyms. The division of the text must be according to the following guidelines:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Original articles<\/em><\/strong>: Introduction (whose last paragraph will be the Objective); Method(s); Results; Discussion; Conclusion(s); and References.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Review articles<\/strong>: Introduction (whose last paragraph will be the Objective); Method(s); Results; Discussion; Conclusion(s); and References.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Systematic reviews and meta-analyses:<\/strong> Narrative reviews must be transparent and, although they do not need to detail the search and selection of evidence, it is necessary to provide the terms used in the searches, the databases consulted and the study designs included.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Editorials:<\/strong> They should be done by invitation of the Editorial Board. They do not need to be structured.
    Letters to the Editor:<\/strong>\u00a0Needed is clear wording on the comment intended to be published in a maximum of three pages, which may or may not contain references. It need not be structured.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    DECLARATIONS<\/strong><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    The authors must declare funding sources (if any) and if there are conflicts of interest.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    ACKNOWLEDGMENTS (optional)<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    REFERENCES<\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    They need to be formatted according to the Vancouver Standards (Ann Inter Med 1997; 126:36-47 or website www.icmje.org items IV.A.9 and V). Up to 80 references will be accepted for Original, Technical and Review Articles and 10 for Letters to the Editor and Editorials,<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    ATTENTION:<\/strong> List the references in alphabetical order of the authors' surnames and number them sequentially.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    All authors mentioned and referenced in the body of the text must be included in the Reference List. However, if the referenced work has more than 6 authors, cite the first 6 authors and then use et al. When citing in the text, use the reference number in superscript form. Journal titles should be referred to in abbreviated form according to the List of Journals Indexed in Scielo and PubMed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    At the end of each work, the doi number, if available, must be included. References to textbook chapters must include the names of the authors, the title of the chapter, the book, the edition, the publisher, the year of publication, the chapter number, and the initial and final page.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

    Examples of references:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
