SUMMARY OF THE EDITORIAL PROCESS – to the authors

The members of the ABCD Editorial Board and Brazilian College of Digestive Surgery (CBCD) thank you for submitting your manuscript. In the evaluation of the article submitted by the authors, joint works are developed by the Editor and Vice-Editors, in addition to the Journal's technical team and the members of the Editorial Board, with the primary objectives of evaluating the scientific content of the study and its contribution to the literature and contributing to the improvement of your manuscript. In this way, the Journal will be contributing to the advancement of device surgery and gastroenterology, nationally and internationally.

The Journal's editorial process consists of the following steps:

TECHNICAL REVIEW: This is carried out by the Editors, Vice-Editors and the technical team. It basically consists of reviewing aspects of scientific form and writing, verifying that the manuscript meets all of the ABCD standardization, including all the items detailed in the Journal's INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS and is able to go through the external peer review process.

EXTERNAL PEER REVIEW: This review is performed by at least two external reviewers who make up the ABCD Editorial Board and have solid knowledge and experience in the subject area of the manuscript. At this stage, reviewers will assess the scientific merit, writing, contribution to the literature and content of the manuscript, and may then issue constructive comments for its improvement. Reviewers do not know the identity of the authors and the location of the research and follow the ABCD guidelines, including checking the ethical aspects of the research.

REVIEW BY EDITORS: Upon the analysis of the Journal's technical team and reviewers, regarding the aspects that can be improved in the writing or the need to adapt to the standards adopted for publication in ABCD, the Editors will issue an opinion on the initial evaluation of the study and the subject area, requesting or not the authors to reformulate and adapt the manuscript (Title, Abstract, Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References and Acknowledgments, and the figures, graphs and tables as well). At this stage, the manuscript may be considered approved and ready for publication, or pre-approved for publication, and then the authors will be asked to resubmit the paper, to continue the review process for publication.

The manuscript not approved for publication will be immediately returned to the authors, with the opinions issued, so that they have the opportunity to submit the study for publication in another journal.

FINAL REVIEW BY EDITORS AND EDITORIAL BOARD: Manuscripts pre-approved and then returned to the Journal will be re-analyzed as to the need for new adaptations and adjustments by the authors. And finally, the manuscript considered approved and ready for publication will be sent to be submitted to the entire editing process by the layout section responsible, in compliance with the standards of SciELO, PubMed, PubMed Central and other indexers. At this stage, thanks will be sent to the authors, and the main author will be asked to pay the publication fee, directly to Brazilian College of Digestive Surgery (CBCD), according to the Instructions to Authors.
